Chommies presents a colourful world of luxury dog accessories, handcrafted by local artisans in its Cape Town studio. The brand prides itself on being a contemporary showcase of Southern African craftsmanship and design, while taking inspiration from the vibrancy and unexpectedness of a life lived with dogs. 

A ‘chommie’ is South African slang for a friend. The spirit of this brand is built on the warmth and community we feel in SA, the concept of ubuntu, and the obvious – man’s best friend.

This project took the form of a brand update. This required us to draw inspiration from and build on the existing product, but also create a more contemporary/tongue-in-cheek identity to match the ethos of the brand and already chic sensibility of the product. The creation of a distinctive illustration style was central to this update. The mess and scratchiness of dirty paws informed the mark-making style; rakes, dry paintbrushes and scratchy charcoal nibs are used in combination to evoke a feeling of chaotic joy.
