Trouble in Paradise.
A distant flight and a world away, you’ll find Mamasamba – where the sun warms your face and the fire ignites the night. Where the vines sway and the birds dance. Colour-drenched and sun-soaked, a land of fire-licked food and delicious monsters. A playground in the concrete jungle, where time slows down and your heartbeat quickens.
Mamasamba is a new concept restaurant in the heart of Johannesburg, offering high-end South American fusion cuisine. Illustration played a large role in this project. All elements were hand-painted with ink and combined with hand-cut collage elements, to create a layered story reflecting an Amazonian world alive with surprise and trouble.
I was commissioned to work on this project under the creative direction of Jana and Koos Studio. My role in this project was to develop the brand’s wordmark and typographic systems, illustrations, mural designs and print/menu designs.
Mamasamba is currently open and available for bookings at The Zone in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
